Editing the Commercial

The dumping process was already completed last class which went very well. However, the editing process in pinnacle studios did not start off very well. There were a lot of issues and setbacks. We saved all of our footage on my flash drive so we wouldn’t have to worry about it being deleted from the computer. When pinnacle studios was open I called over our teacher so she can log in for us to start the editing process. Transferring the footage from the pinnacle studios was probably the easiest thing we did all class. After that everything was pretty much going downhill. The whole software was going completely slow. So it was very difficult for us to get anything done. This caused a delay on the whole project.

First we tried to look at our footage that was taken off of the camera. The footage on the computer was very blurry and glitchy. We then realized there was some random already in  pinnacle studios. I then had had to delete the other video’s soundtrack, video, and transitions. This was somewhat dreadful because of the technical difficulties that were going on. It took a very long time for all of the footage to be completely gone, which took time out of our editing. When everything was completely blank I then tried to drag at least one video to the “video track” to see how the our footage will play. I had a little hope that it would play perfectly fine but my wishes were crushed. Almost all of the footage was horrible. I began to worry and stress because nun of out footage was coming out as expected and the class period was almost over.

I exited out of pinnacle studios and tried to watch the footage from the computer alone. The clips were still going slow, at this point we started to panic. We barely got any editing done because the software was going not as expected. We then realized that the reason that everything is glitching is because of the computer in general. One of my team members then called over a student so she could help us download it to our google drive. I first logged into my google accounts, selected all of the footage from the computer, then dragged it to google drive. The wait for all of the 51 videos to upload to google drive did not really take a long time. We then watched the clips from the google drive which bring us some hope. The footage was no longer glitchy and came out perfectly fine. This bring us some hope because our footage was not the problem. Although we didn’t really complete any of our true editing processes it wasn’t our fault.

Filming Blog

To actually leave the classroom to film our group would have go through many prerequisites. First we would fill out a signing sheet and checkout both a camera and a tripod. In this step I grabbed the camera and made sure it was working properly while the others signed the sheet. After these things were done were done we were free to go. We then started to change in our attire that was appropriate for our commercial. I took part in the running scene of the commercial, so I wore a school track suit that I received from the previous school year. After all four of us changed we made our way down to the track/field. The first scene was filmed on the track including another girl and myself. We both did the same thing for the entire scene. Which was mainly focused on us running out of the block starts and drinking from our gatorades.

Starting blocks are basically what they sound like they are, they are used in the sport of track to help runners begin running. So when we got to the track the first thing I did was grab a starting block. I then set up the blocks to match up the leg I run with and my shoe size. I got into the starting position which is when one of my group members started to film. She then said the words “on you mark, get set, go” which is when I took off. I did not go into a full run as if I were at a meet but only ran about 30 meters for the purpose of the commercial. Although I did not run a long distance I still make sure it seemed realistic as possible by coming out strong and fiercely. Me and my partner did this about 3 times just so we could have a choice to pick when we edit. After all the running scenes were completed they recorded us drinking the gatorade. When we did so we made sure we looked sweaty and tired, we did this by spraying ourselves with a spray bottle and breathing heavily.

After the track scene we had two sports left to record; soccer was first. While our team members recorded/filmed the soccer scene my partner and I packed up all the track items. I picked up my starting blocks and brung them back to where they belonged. I then moved all of our personal belongings closer to where they were recording. After the soccer scene we switched locations at went to the patio. At the patio we recorded the yoga scene. While my group members were fulfilling this task I found it to be a great opportunity to go change back into my regular school clothes. Shortly after I came back from the restroom our camera died so we had to record one more shot off of our phones. To save time I returned back to class with the SD card to begin dumping out our footage. It took a while for all the footage to download onto the computer but we finished right on time. The last thing I did was saved the footage to my flash drive just to be more safe.

Storyboard

Today, our group did a storyboard for our Gatorade commercial. In each box we carefully planned out what we will do for each 5 second scene in our commercials. The first scene of our commercial contains 2 track athletes at the starting blocks preparing to take off. This scene will contain heavy breathing and heart beat sound effects (non-diegetic sounds). These sounds effects  and action shots will help to emphasize the importance of the scene. The second scene of our commercial will be a jump cut from the first scene into a girl playing soccer. She will be juggling the soccer ball or shooting into a goal to show that she is playing soccer. We will use long or medium shots to focus on her playing soccer through different camera angles. In our third scene it will be a cutaway from the girl playing soccer to a girl doing yoga. The music will change into a very peaceful sound to show the change in the scene from a more hardcore scene to a very soothing scene. In the fourth scene it is an action match of each of the athletes from the different scenes drinking Gatorade. This will show each subject and the main product of the commercial. In the fifth scene all athletes join together and fiercely slam the Gatorade bottles down for effect purposes. This will show effect of the Gatorade bottles that are emphasized throughout the commercial. The sixth and final scene will cut to a black screen with the Gatorade logo and a member doing a voiceover of one of the companies’ popular slogans.

Editing Lesson Blog

Almost everything that was taught to me today was brand new. Starting with the procedure for checking out everything from our classroom. The first thing to be done is by completing a agreement form. On this form things that will need be filled out are thing like our name, date, period, and members of the group. We will then bring the form to our teacher to receive a camera. After receiving the camera we will write the number of the camera and (if needed) tripod number & sd card number. Getting a pass and having our school ID’s to go out of the classroom but these rules are only for on campus filming. After this step we are almost to the end of this procedure. We will then put the agreement form in our class folder then go out for filming. When retiring our camera and anything else we checked out we will then do this procedure in reverse. Starting by getting out completed form then bringing it to our teacher to give back the camera and returning anything else needed. This procedure is in fact important and specific for multiple reasons. Such as there is a very limited amount of resources in the classroom and everything is to be organized.

After you have recorded all of your footage you then begin the process of dumping it onto the computers provided for us. The software we will be using throughout the year is called Pinnacle Studios. By using an SD card and SD card reader you will dump all of your recordings. The recordings should usually be in a folder called DCIM but if not you will be able to go in a private folder and click on “Your Stream” which will show basically everything on that SD card. As suggested to us by our teacher, we will then bring all of our footage into a folder and save it there rather then it staying on the SD card. Doing this will allow others to use the SD card if needed. This will end the process of dumping and begin the process of importing/exporting.

To begin importing on Pinnacle Studios you will click on the “Import” button in the right hand corner. Then you’ll look for your folder which should be under the “My Computer” tab. You should always import all of your footage just to be safe when it comes to losing media. You will then click start import when you have selected all of the footage you want to edit. After this step you will begin editing.
You will start by dragging the footage onto the av track 2. While the footage is on the track you will wait for the yellow bar to turn fully green; this indicates that it is fully loaded. Navigating through Pinnacle Studios doesn’t seem very hard. For example, you can use the red bar to go through the video , if you want to add a title you click on the big letter T, and if you want to cut parts out you click on the razor blade icon. Furthermore, when you have completed all of your desire edits you will then move on to the exporting phase. You click “export” at the top right corner of the screen, then press start export then your all done.

Planning Blog For Gatorade Commercial

For our blog, today we are going to be planning out the details of our Gatorade commercial. This includes props, costumes, schedule, location, and our back-up plan. All of these will be very essential in creating a commercial that is entertaining and effective. Planning is a very important step in film making. This is because planning helps you write out step by step what your commercial will consist of and look like. Without planning the filming process becomes long and unorganized. Planning helps to save time and money and insures that filming will be successful no matter what.
Props are extremely essential to a commercial. They give the commercial livelihood and make it more entertaining and understandable for the audience. Throughout our commercial some of the props we will be using consist of : 4 Gatorade bottles (different colors), spray Gatorade bottles, regular spray bottle, 2 block starts, a soccer ball, and a yoga mat. All of these props will be incorporated into our commercial to make the commercial the best that we can. We will include the Gatorade bottle with different colors throughout each scene with a different sport being idolized. For example, for one scene we will focus on yoga using our yoga mat as a prop, we will play soccer for another scene using our soccer ball as a prop, and lastly we will show track using our starting blocks as a prop for that scene.
In this paragraph we will discuss another very important part of film known as costume. Costume plays a huge role in how the audience will interpret the scene. The costume allows the people watching to understand what you are trying to portray in that specific scene or the entire commercial in general. For example we will be using a school track and soccer uniform to allow the audience to understand that we are trying to show athletes playing soccer or running on the track. We will also be using athletic clothes as costumes to show the audience that the main focus of that scene is working out or doing something athletic. Going along with costume, another essential part of a scene is location. Location sets the entire basis of where you will be filming for each of your scenes. For our scenes we will be filming on the schools track field and the football field . This will set the scene that we are going to be playing sports or doing something dealing with physical education. This is a very important part of film because it allows the audience to know where you will be filming and gives them a better idea of the scene and film in general.
The schedule for our filming process will go as follows. Today we began planning for our commercial which included props, costumes, location etc. Then we are going to storyboard over the weekend so that we can start filming on Monday 10/14. On Monday we will start the filming process. We will shoot the scenes from the storyboard we drew up over the weekend. We will then change into costumes and go to our locations. Next we will continue to film on 10/16. We will shoot any scenes that we feel we should redo and shoot some scenes twice so that we can pick from the better out of the two. We will be filming outside for our whole commercial so if it rains we have a backup plan that will work and still cut across the same message. If it starts to rain then we will change locations from the track to the stairs and shoot two people running up and down the stairs. We would also change from the outdoor patio for yoga to a roofed hallway. Also, if someone from my group is absent then we plan to shoot everything the same but the activity that that person was supposed to do in that shot someone else will have to do. These plans will work when we are faced with any scenario.

Research Conventions & Codes

The product my group selected is the refreshing and revolutionary Gatorade. We selected this product because we thoroughly enjoy the drink and watching the entertaining Gatorade commercials. In most Gatorade commercials there are little to no women at all. This encourages us to want to make a commercial to show that everyone can be in a Gatorade no matter who you are or what you like. We want to be able show equality throughout different things in society, even through commercials. Throughout most of our lives we have been all played a sport or been involved in athletic activities. While playing sports we always look to Gatorade to fulfill our thirst quenching mouths. Gatorade is such an essential part of al of our lives.

In most Gatorade commercials we usually see people performing athletic activities. For example, activities like running, football, soccer, and cheerleading are usually idealized in these commercials. Mostly in Gatorade commercials there are different amounts of people who belong to a team or are performing individual sports. They are usually either warming up, exercising, or actually doing the sport. Towards the end of the commercial the product is displayed in an exaggerated way to catch the attention of the audience. The producers of the commercial usually portray this by having the athletic figures walk away and drink the Gatorade in a somewhat refreshing way. They also do this by placing the Gatorade in a focused area with the background as the athletic activity.

The company Gatorade uses sports because Gatorade is a sports drink directed at active people that want to “fuel” their bodies. These commercials usually convince their audience to want to get up and be active. That’s when their product comes in play. Whenever the audience decides to be more active or workout they will feel that they should pick up a Gatorade to drink in order to perform accurately. These commercials usually use score in their commercials. This consists of intense inspiring music that helps to inspire and engage the audience. Also common amount these commercials is tracking shots. These shots are used when the athletes are performing in the sport. Commonly used as well is a zoom. This is used to mostly zoom in on the drink and show a refreshing icy looking drink that makes the audiences mouths water. They also use this shot to zoom in on athletes drinking or holding the drink. Sometimes Gatorade companies use star athletes in their commercials. They do this to show watchers that professional athletes use this product and so should they.

Introductory

Hello, my name is Katia but my friends call me Katianna for some odd reason. I look at myself to be someone who is humble, ambitious, and chill. I wouldn't consider myself to be an extra type of person. I'm just a typical 16 year old who goes to school, watches Netflix when bored and goes out with her friends every once in a blue moon. When people see me in person they automatically think "she's one of those girls who's stuck up" or "she's all that." But in all honesty I am one of the nicest, caring, and funniest people you'll ever meet. Some characteristics I value when a person is honesty, truthful, and humor. Meanwhile, some characteristics I do not wish to see in a person is someone is negativety,  arrogant, and bossy. When it comes to food some of my favorite dishes are Haitian macaroni, fried shrimp, and Alfredo. Some plates I do not favor are oatmeal, vegetarian food, and fish. And as for things in general I like to sleep, be with my friends, and binge watch shows. However, some things I do not like to do is party for hours, talk to people, and cook. To some things up I am a 16 year old who attends Fort Lauderdale High School where most my classes are college leveled. I am Haitian as well as both my parents. I have one older sister and two younger siblings on my dad side.
