Editing for Music Video

After successfully completing all of the necessary scenes for our video we gathered our stuff to leave the beach. We all went to one of our group mates house to start the editing process. We started by deciding which video of each scene that we need. We then sent the chosen videos to my MacBook. The first thing I had to do was import all over the videos onto iMovie. I made sure they were in the chronological order so it would save us time. Next I added the song we chose. We decided to watch the film raw and uncut before we began to edit. As we watched the film we picked out videos that needed to be shortened. When we finished watching it I then began to shorten certain clips.

Shortening our clips helped us with two purposes; fitting the time limit and making the videos match up with the song. After I completed this we rewatched the film to see if the clips made more sense. It did, so we moved on to the next task. With the music we had to start it at a certain time so it could add a special effect. We had to drag the music bar to a specific time. This required lots of precision. The next thing we had to do was add a freeze frame onto the last scene. This also required precision because we had to freeze the scene as soon as the beat dropped. It took us a while to align the freeze with the best but we eventually got it. After completing both of these steps we watched the video once more.

The whole video had a perfect flow without any transitions so we didn’t feel it was necessary to  add any. We thought we were done, everything was perfect. However we came to a realization that our video was over the time limit. We had to then go back to watch every scene and decide what to cut out. This part was very difficult for us because we felt that every part was a necessity. After hard deliberation we knew what to do. We first cut out a scene completely. We then cropped two scenes at the end. And lastly we cut 3 seconds off of a scene in the beginning. This cut down our video to fit the time limit perfectly; the editing process was over.

Filming on break

As mentioned before in my previous blog my group was having trouble to pick a day to film. After carefully consideration we decided to film on December 5th. This would’ve been a perfect day for us because it was supposed to be a PSD where get out of school at 11:59 am. This would’ve allowed to basically get the full day to film. However, a couple days ago we realized that we were not receiving a PSD on that date. This messed up our whole plan completely. We had to quickly think of another day to film that will fit all of our schedules. We first decided that it had to be a day after school. To decide which day was the hassle. After long discussions we finally decided to film Wednesday (December 4th) after school.

As soon as the bell ring at 2:40 pm we will all meet up in one place. We will then order our uber to go to the nearest beach since this was the main place we were going to film. While we are in the car we will record the scene that needs that scenery. In this scene we will record all of the four of us in the car. The film will shortly cut to when we are walking out of the car, this part will be edited to be in slow motion. We will do this about 3 times to ensure that this specific part of the recording is good since we will only be in the car together once. We will then record majority of the rest of the scenes on the beach. This will include the going back of forth between the main character and the rest of the girls. When the main character is in the frame one of the other girls would record and when when the other girls are in the frame the main character would record. This will continue up until the last few seconds of the music video.

In the last scenes of the video the scenery will change as well as who is in the frame. For the scenery we will still be at the beach but instead of actually being on the sand we will be sitting at one of the beach tables. We changed the scenery because it correlates with what we had in mind. At first the girls will be surrounding the main character telling her to stop stressing herself over the boy and that she should be having fun. After we will then walk away from the beach tables and start walking to a nearby food place where everyone can enjoy themselves. This part is important because it shows how the girl finally stopped worrying about a boy who clearly did not care about her. In these scenes we will need a tripod to record since everyone would be in the shot. In the part when we are walking to a different location we would probably need someone to record us as we are walking.
Although we have not recorded yet, everything will certainly go smoothly since every little step is planned out.
